Region Two Mechanic Accused of Sexual Assault Released on Bail
A 23-year-old auto repair worker from the Essequibo Coast has been conditionally freed after being accused of sexually attacking a woman at a local sports venue. Kaieteur News reported that Saif Mohamed, who lives in Affiance, Region Two, was brought before the Anna Ragina Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Prosecutors allege that the incident took place on Monday at the Number One Cricket Ground in Affiance. The defendant denied the accusation when he appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, entering a not-guilty plea.
The magistrate allowed Mohamed to go free on $50,000 bail, but attached several restrictions to his release. He is forbidden from approaching or communicating with the woman who made the complaint. Additionally, if their paths cross, he must remain no closer than 100 feet from her.
The legal proceedings will continue on July 28, 2026, when prosecutors are expected to present disclosed statements in the case.
