A 33-year-old man from Paramakatoi Village was arrested when police conducting a waterway operation in the Supuruni River area discovered shotgun shells in his bag.

A mining worker is currently in police custody following the discovery of shotgun shells during a security sweep in Guyana's hinterland. The arrest took place on Thursday in the Supuruni River area, which lies within the Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve.

Law enforcement personnel reported that during the patrol, they pulled alongside a silver aluminum vessel transporting half a dozen individuals. While examining the possessions of a man from Paramakatoi Village in Region 8, detectives located a backpack. Inside, wrapped in a white plastic sack, were four unfired 12-gauge cartridges.

The detainee, aged 33, was conveyed to the Annai Police Station and remains held there. Officers have secured the rounds as the probe proceeds.
