A 63-year-old self-employed man from Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, was taken into custody on Saturday after police discovered an unlicensed .45 pistol and seven live rounds of ammunition concealed in his bedroom.

A 63-year-old resident of Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, was apprehended by police on Saturday following the discovery of an illegal firearm at his home.

According to the Guyana Police Force, officers were carrying out an operation in the area when they received information that led them to a house along Perseverance Public Road. There, they made contact with the self-employed suspect.

During a search of the premises, law enforcement officers uncovered a .45 calibre pistol and a magazine loaded with seven live rounds of matching ammunition. The weapon had been hidden inside a bedroom.

The man was placed under arrest and transported to the Anna Regina Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were logged as evidence. He remains detained while the investigation proceeds.
