Opposition Lawmaker Held Over Alleged Domestic Assault in Moruca
Officers took an opposition parliamentarian into custody on Wednesday amid claims of a domestic disturbance at his Moruca home in Region One's North West District.
A release from Police Headquarters stated that initial findings suggest the legislator and his wife were inside their house when a dispute allegedly erupted. The disagreement is said to have turned violent.
The woman claims the suspect hit a child, which caused her to get involved. She alleges he then punched her repeatedly and shoved her down, making her strike her head and briefly black out.
She also told investigators that the man later picked up a chopper and approached her threateningly, making her afraid for her life.
The woman filed her complaint at Acquero Police Station and was taken for medical treatment.
The suspect was later picked up by police and remains in lockup as the investigation proceeds.
