Opposition MP Arrested in Moruca Over Alleged Domestic Assault

A member of parliament from the Opposition benches was apprehended by officers on Wednesday following allegations of domestic abuse at his home in Moruca, located in the North West District of Region One.

According to a statement issued by Police Headquarters, early inquiries indicate that the legislator and his spouse became embroiled in a heated dispute at their dwelling. The disagreement reportedly turned physical, during which the parliamentarian is accused of striking a youngster. When the woman stepped in to protect the child, the suspect allegedly punched her repeatedly and shoved her to the floor, causing her to strike her head and momentarily black out.

The complainant further told investigators that the parliamentarian later grabbed a chopper and moved toward her in a menacing way, prompting her to fear for her life and wellbeing.

She subsequently filed a report at the Acquero Police Station and was taken to receive medical care. Officers later placed the suspect under arrest and detained him pending further investigation.
