Police burn cannabis farm worth $31M at Wiruni Village, Upper Berbice

Officers destroyed roughly 80,000 cannabis plants across six acres in Upper Berbice River. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Police ranks burned a cannabis farm at Wiruni Village, Upper Berbice River, on Tuesday, destroying narcotics valued at approximately $31.1 million in Guyanese currency, newsroom.gy reports.

According to a release from Police Headquarters, one field spanning roughly six acres was located, containing approximately 80,000 suspected cannabis plants ranging between two and five feet in height.

Officers also found a quantity of dried cannabis weighing around ten pounds and a makeshift camp measuring 20 feet by 10 feet at the site.

The suspected plants were uprooted and set alight, along with the dried cannabis and the camp. The total estimated value of the narcotics destroyed stands at $31,186,328 in Guyana currency.

No arrests have been made. Investigations continue.
