A serving member of the Guyana Police Force has been detained after investigators connected him to a fatal hit-and-run collision that left two Nabaclis Village residents dead. The crash happened on Sunday night along the Railway Embankment, in the stretch between Clonbrook and Ann’s Grove, WIC News reports.

Detectives took the officer into custody once they established him as the likely driver. He has since hired a lawyer. Authorities noted that the suspect also suffered a fractured arm.

The deceased were Collis “Cappo” Bristol, who was riding the motorcycle, and his passenger Akeem “Burnham” Burgess. Police said a car travelling at high speed slammed into the bike. Bristol was killed instantly; his remains were dragged a short way before the motorist sped off. Burgess was rushed to Enmore Regional Hospital but later died from his wounds.

Before the driver was traced, the victims’ relatives had posted a reward of GYD $200,000 for any tip that would identify the person responsible.

As of now, the force has issued no formal statement on the case, and it is unknown if the detained officer has been charged. The probe continues.

People in the area have reacted with anger, with some accusing those in uniform of evading justice. One resident remarked that powerful figures frequently avoid punishment while ordinary citizens pay the price. Others offered condolences to the grieving families and demanded swift accountability.

Further updates from the Guyana Police Force are still awaited.
