An entrepreneur from Guyana is now free on bail after presenting himself to investigators looking into a significant weapons find made earlier this month.

Randy Jagdeo was taken into custody once he answered a summons tied to the 11 June recovery of 23 automatic rifles at Schoonard, situated on the West Bank of Demerara. He was subsequently allowed to leave the station after securing his temporary release with a sizeable monetary guarantee. The inquiry, however, is far from concluded.

The firearms came to light during a sweep carried out by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit. Inspectors stopped a vehicle and, upon searching it, uncovered almost two dozen AK-47s plus accompanying rounds.

According to statements made by Deputy Commissioner and Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, the guns were manufactured in America. He added an important forensic detail: only a single rifle retained its factory serial number; the rest—22 in total—had had their identifying numbers obliterated.

Law enforcement regards this as one of the most notable underground arms interceptions in the recent past, and efforts to determine how the weapons entered the country and who was meant to receive them are continuing.
