Kaieteur News reports that police in Regional Division #4'A' seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition from a man intercepted on Church Street, Georgetown, just after midnight on Tuesday.

Officers conducting a police operation stopped a 40-year-old security guard travelling on a motor scooter at approximately 00:10 hrs. A search of the man uncovered a Glock 17 pistol fitted with a magazine holding seven live 9mm rounds, as well as one spent shell casing.

When questioned, the suspect acknowledged he held no firearm licence. He was cautioned, placed under arrest and taken to the Kitty Police Station, where the weapon, magazine, live rounds and spent casing were photographed, marked, sealed and lodged as exhibits.

The suspect remained in custody on Tuesday as investigations continued.
