Calgary Police shot a man in critical condition early Thursday morning following a two-hour standoff at a home in the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor S.W., calgary.citynews.ca reports.

Officers were called around 3 a.m. to reports of a disturbance involving a man armed with a weapon. When they arrived, the man had retreated inside a residence. Police then engaged him and applied de-escalation tactics in an attempt to take him into custody.

Two hours later the man emerged from the home. A confrontation followed in which one officer discharged their firearm. The suspect was transported to hospital in critical condition. No officers sustained injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate the incident. ASIRT is mandated to examine any police interaction that results in serious injury or death.

Police say no further details are available at this time.
