Couple in their 70s killed outside Scarborough long-term care facility
A husband and wife, both in their 70s, were shot and killed Monday in the parking lot of Providence Healthcare, a seniors hospital and long-term care facility near Warden Ave. and St. Clair Ave. E. in Scarborough, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
Toronto Police received calls at approximately 12:30 p.m. reporting two individuals with gunshot wounds. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Inspector Scott Shutt of Toronto Police confirmed at an afternoon news conference that the woman had been a patient at the facility. "The female was the patient at the hospital," Shutt said.
The homicide unit has taken over the investigation. Shutt told reporters there were "no outstanding suspects and no threat to public safety" as of Monday afternoon. The next of kin had not yet been notified at that point.
Shutt acknowledged the broader impact of the incident on patients, families and staff. "Obviously, it's a very traumatic incident for the family members involved, but also the sheer amount of patients that come through the hospital here, it would be a huge concern for people," he said.
He also appealed to the public for help. "We understand that incidents like this can cause great concern to the community. If anyone has any information, no matter how small it may seem, please reach out to us."

Hamilton 18-year-old charged with attempted murder after targeted shooting
In a separate incident, Hamilton Police have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder following a shooting Friday afternoon in the King St. E. and Lawrence Rd. area.
Officers responded around 2:15 p.m. and located two victims with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting response team believes the attack was targeted, and the homicide unit is assisting with the investigation.
Darien Wilson faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a restricted loaded firearm, possession of a restricted firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Knife-wielding robber sought after St. Catharines business hit
Niagara Regional Police are seeking a suspect in connection with a commercial robbery that occurred Thursday on Bunting Rd. in St. Catharines.
A male entered the business armed with a knife, demanded money and fled eastbound on Greenwood Ave. with a small quantity of cash. The suspect is described as male, approximately 20 years old, with dark skin. He was wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt, black balaclava, grey sweatpants, black running shoes and a grey pouch.

Toronto Police seek suspect in Etobicoke firearm discharge
Toronto Police are asking the public to help identify a suspect involved in a firearm discharge in the Castlebar Rd. and Uno Dr. area on Aug. 5.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., two groups travelling in separate vehicles opened fire on each other. A suspect then exited the rear passenger side of one vehicle, approached the other and discharged a firearm before returning to his vehicle. Both vehicles fled at high speed.
The suspect is described as having a medium build and brown hair. He was wearing a green jacket, grey pants and white shoes, and was travelling in a grey SUV.
