Federal police officer kills robber in attempted robbery at his home in La Matanza

A 52-year-old first sergeant of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) killed an 18-year-old robber and wounded others after repelling an attempted robbery outside his home on Anastasio Girardot Street, reported canal13sanjuan.com. The remainder of the five-member gang managed to escape.
The incident was recorded on security cameras in the area. The officer was standing next to his Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck when a blue Volkswagen Polo without a licence plate braked sharply in front of him. Three of the occupants got out armed and fired at the house gate to intimidate him.
The sergeant drew his service weapon and fired three shots. The impacts struck the head and legs of Thiago Sebastián Pereyra, 18 years old, who fell gravely wounded on the pavement. His accomplices lifted him into the vehicle and fled at high speed. In the chaos of the escape, one of the gang members escaped clinging to the bonnet of the car, gripping the front while the vehicle accelerated through the neighbourhood streets.
A few blocks from the scene, the criminals intercepted a taxi driver who was returning home with his wife. They threatened him with death and demanded that he take the wounded man to a medical centre, under the threat of stealing his car. The taxi driver complied and took Pereyra to the Urgent Care Unit 18, where the youth arrived dead.
Prosecutor Diego Rulli, in charge of the Thematic Homicides Unit of La Matanza, analysed the ballistic evidence and testimony collected. He concluded that the case constituted a clear instance of self-defence and took no restrictive measures against the sergeant.
