In the night into Friday, Austrian police in Styria arrested two Slovenian citizens, aged 28 and 29. The suspects got into trouble after fleeing from police in a van obtained through fraud and causing a collision. Details were published by Lokalec.si.
The events began on Thursday in Ljubljana. The two men posed as buyers of a small van to a 58-year-old seller, also a Slovenian citizen. They paid for the vehicle using false identity and a forged remittance confirmation. After taking possession of the vehicle, they drove towards the northern neighbouring country.
When the seller realised he had become a victim of fraud, he informed the Slovenian security authorities. They immediately forwarded the information to their Austrian colleagues, who located the stolen vehicle on motorway A2 between Klagenfurt and Graz.
Police officers ordered the driver several times to stop, but the 29-year-old did not respond to the signals. He left the motorway and continued driving towards Ščavnica. The flight ended at around 22:00 when the vehicle collided with a traffic sign.
Both suspects sustained minor injuries in the accident. Police officers arrested them and filed charges against them. The damaged van was returned to its owner in Ljubljana after the proceedings concluded.
