Missing Argentine Police Officer in Villazón: La Quiaca Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

Search for Argentine Corporal in Villazón Gains Bilateral Cooperation
The mayor of the Municipality of La Quiaca, Dante Velásquez, met this Tuesday with the departmental commander of the Bolivian Police in Potosí, Franklin Villazón, to intensify the search for Maximiliano Óscar Martínez, according to El Deber.
Martínez, a 30-year-old corporal of the Argentine Federal Police, has been missing since the 8th of this month, when he crossed into the city of Villazón to make purchases and did not return.
Velásquez raised with Commander Villazón the need to deepen joint work between the agencies involved, in order to maintain momentum in search efforts and establish direct coordination channels with high-level authorities.
A relevant development that emerged in recent days is the activation of Martínez's mobile telephone in Bolivian territory, after remaining off during the first days of his disappearance. Authorities are analysing this information to determine what happened to him.
Bolivian Police personnel continue searching different sectors, neighbourhoods and areas of Villazón with the assistance of two specialised search dogs, progressively expanding territorial coverage and verifying possible leads.
Last weekend, a joint operation between Bolivian police and Argentine federal forces personnel resulted in the discovery of the body of a 55-year-old man in an area called Agua de Castilla, on the border between the two countries. The body was transported to the morgue of San Roque Hospital in Villazón, although it was not Martínez.
Velásquez stressed the importance of the meeting with the police chief of Potosí for advancing direct communication between authorities and noted that the commitment is to continue supporting all necessary actions until finding the whereabouts of the Argentine citizen.
