Police reinforcement in Santa Cruz following four deaths from gunshot
25 officers arrived from other regions to reinforce street controls in Santa Cruz under Plan DEC. Violence has left at least four fatal victims in recent days.
Plan DEC deployed in Santa Cruz after wave of homicides by gunshot
According to El Deber, a contingent of 25 police officers from other regions of the country arrived in Santa Cruz to join security operations in the city and its provinces, in response to a series of violent incidents recorded in recent days.
The most recent incident occurred in the early morning hours, when a 32-year-old man was shot dead with three bullets outside his home in the Magisterio Sur neighbourhood, one block from the seventh ring and Olímpica Avenue.
On the night of Monday 14 September, two young people were shot dead in a home in San Ignacio de Velasco. With them, the municipality has accumulated four fatal victims: the first two had been shot dead the previous weekend.
The security plan was extended to both San Ignacio de Velasco and the Cruz capital. Near midday, a police group moved to the fourth ring of Santos Dumont Avenue, in the southern zone of the city.
Officers from the Delta group and the Integrated Police Station (EPI) 9 carried out checks on two- and four-wheeled vehicles, verified whether drivers were carrying firearms or bags, whether motorcyclists were wearing safety helmets and whether they had a driver's licence.
"We have come to reinforce control work in the city," declared one of the officers during the Plan DEC (Stationary Control Device) operation, aimed at preventative tasks. The officer asserted that police presence at different points in the city would be routine.
