Martinique assize court: 18 years imprisonment for fratricide in Rivière-Pilote
The assize court delivered its verdict following a three-day hearing. A 31-year-old Martinican was found guilty of shooting his brother, a 29-year-old man, during the summer of 2021 in the municipality of Rivière-Pilote.
The jury established premeditation. The public prosecutor had requested a sentence of 22 years imprisonment. The court ultimately imposed 18 years imprisonment for a criminal offence.
The sentence plunged those close to the victim into profound distress, as the two men shared the same family roots. No civil parties were constituted in this case.
