Chevaline massacre: weapon discovered in Lake Annecy reopens investigation

Weapon recovered from Lake Annecy revives Chevaline case
Nearly fourteen years after the Chevaline massacre, the case is experiencing an unexpected development. According to BFM TV, British tourists discovered a weapon at the bottom of Lake Annecy, relaunching an investigation that has remained unresolved since September 2012.
The Nanterre public prosecutor's office immediately ordered analyses to determine whether this weapon could be the one used during the massacre. This quadruple homicide, committed in a forest car park in Haute-Savoie, claimed the lives of four people, including three members of the Al-Hilli family of Iraqi-British origin and a French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier.
The discovery was made by chance by British holidaymakers who were exploring the lake's waters. The results of the ballistic and forensic analyses could constitute a decisive breakthrough in a case that has, to date, resulted in no prosecution for the facts of murder.
