Murder in Châteaumeillant: investigation opened for voluntary manslaughter by spouse
According to france3-regions.franceinfo.fr, the body of a 47-year-old woman was discovered at her home in Châteaumeillant, in Cher, on Sunday 20 September at around 22:50. The public prosecutor of the Republic of Bourges, Céline Visiedo, confirmed the opening of an investigation for "voluntary manslaughter by spouse or cohabitant".
The autopsy, carried out on Monday 21 September, established that the victim died as a result of "multiple traumatic injuries", caused by blows inflicted by one or more persons.
The Saint-Amand-Montrond brigade and the Bourges investigation section, jointly assigned to the enquiry, quickly established that the victim was living with a partner. However, this person has been "unreachable since the incident", according to the prosecutor's office. This circumstance led investigators to reclassify the matter as voluntary manslaughter by spouse or cohabitant.
The search to locate the suspect continued on Tuesday evening. The prosecutor's office stressed, however, that it has no certainty regarding the guilt of the partner: other lines of enquiry, outside the femicide theory, are also being explored. Less than two days after the discovery of the body, no arrest had yet been made.
