Lawyers for the European Parliament set out, on Friday 25 September, before the Paris Court of Appeal, the responsibility of MoDem leaders in the misappropriation of funds linked to parliamentary assistant contracts, according to mediapart.fr.
The pleading, conducted without rhetorical flourishes or scholarly citations, relied on restraint. Me Maisonneuve established the existence of fraud by recalling the applicable regulations, according to the hearing transcript.
The European Parliament, a civil party in this case of public funds misappropriation, has requested confirmation of its material damages, estimated at €206,000, and is also claiming €100,000 for moral damages.
The hearing took place in the old Paris law courts, as part of the appeal trial in the so-called MoDem assistants affair.
