Suspect in shooting death of work colleague arrested in Silves
The Judicial Police in Portimão arrested a 39-year-old man, accused of aggravated murder and possession of an illegal weapon. The crime occurred on 25 May at a construction site in the historic centre of Silves.
The person killed, Luís Ventura, was 38 years old and a former firefighter who had recently turned to civil construction work. The two men had been working together since January. Over the months, relations between them had deteriorated owing to disagreements related to excessive drinking and a sum of money that the deceased allegedly owed.
On the afternoon of the crime, the alleged perpetrator went to the workplace carrying a pistol that belonged to a relative of his and which he had previously hidden in a garage. After a brief argument, he fired at the victim's head, causing immediate death.
The body was only discovered the following day by the employer, who went to the site and found the machinery stopped with the door open. Attempts to contact the worker by telephone were unsuccessful.
The Judicial Police's investigations allowed them to gather solid evidence regarding the perpetrator of the crime, culminating in the suspect's capture and the recovery of the weapon and ammunition. The detained man will be brought before the court for the determination of precautionary measures. Source: Sul Informação
