A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Rio Maior, in the district of Santarém, on suspicion of raping a 20-year-old woman on 27 May. The Judicial Police in Leiria gathered evidence that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
PJ arrests man suspected of raping 20-year-old woman in Rio Maior
The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 36-year-old man in Rio Maior, in the district of Santarém, accused of raping a 20-year-old woman. The crime is believed to have occurred on 27 May at the suspect's residence, where the victim was present due to the friendship that existed between them.
According to information released by the PJ, the man exploited the trust existing between both parties to commit the act. The victim filed a complaint, which allowed the Criminal Investigation Department in Leiria to gather evidence considered relevant to the case.
The investigation led to the issuance of an arrest warrant outside of flagrante delicto. The detainee was taken to court in Santarém so that measures of restraint could be applied to him.
