The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has dismissed former Police Inspector David Bhagwan, a Guyanese national accused of financially exploiting an elderly man, Kaieteur News reports. The termination was announced by Bermuda's Commissioner of Police, Darrin Simmons, following a special case hearing.

Bhagwan's legal troubles were first detailed by Bermuda's Royal Gazette, which reported that the former inspector appeared before the island's Magistrates' Court last month facing four criminal charges.

Among the allegations is that Bhagwan obtained a 2025 Kia Picanto — between an unknown date and June 8, 2026 — with the intention of permanently depriving the vehicle's owner of it. A separate charge alleges he created a false instrument with the intent of inducing the Transport Control Department to accept it as genuine.

A further charge states that on July 10, 2026, Bhagwan financially exploited a senior citizen. He was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges at his Magistrates' Court appearance.

According to the Royal Gazette, the case is expected to be transferred to Bermuda's Supreme Court when Bhagwan next appears before a judge.
