Prisoner flees Limerick courthouse through toilet window, recaptured same day

A man escaped from Newcastle West District Court in Co Limerick through a toilet window before being recaptured following a garda manhunt with air support.

A man who fled garda custody through a window at Newcastle West District Court in Co Limerick has been apprehended, TheJournal.ie reports.

The man was escorted by gardaí to a toilet at the courthouse earlier that day when he made his escape through the window. The incident triggered a search operation involving gardaí on the ground as well as air support.

He had originally been arrested on Monday night and held overnight at Bruff Garda Station. That morning he was brought before Newcastle West District Court in connection with an assault charge linked to an incident in Cappamore, Co Limerick.

The man is originally from the O'Malley Park area of Limerick city.

The manhunt was stood down the same evening after gardaí apprehended him.
