A 40-year-old man from Gillingham has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after sexually assaulting a child at a pub in Rainham, Kent.

A 40-year-old man from Gillingham has been jailed for sexually assaulting a child at a pub in Rainham, localrags.co.uk reports.

Kent Police say that Roche spoke to the child briefly before touching them under their clothing. The victim immediately told a relative what had occurred, and police were notified shortly afterwards.

Roche was arrested later the same day and charged with sexual assault. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and on Wednesday 1 July was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months' imprisonment. He will also be subject to a Community Order for 2 years, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Restraining Order, both lasting 8 years.

Detective Constable Nathan Hales, the investigating officer, said: "Roche saw his opportunity to take advantage of a vulnerable child while they were briefly sitting alone in a pub."

Hales added that attending officers were quick to locate Roche at his home address. He also commended the young victim, saying they were "quick to raise the alarm" despite being distressed, ensuring Roche was brought to justice.
