Ian Davis, 56, described by his family as "harmless," was found with multiple injuries at a property on Baytree Hill in Liskeard on Sunday evening at approximately 21:30 BST, ca.news.yahoo.com reports. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed Davis lived in the Cornish town. His family paid tribute, stating: "He was harmless and he loved his animals, especially dogs, he didn't deserve what happened to him."
Four men have since been arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail. Three are from Liskeard, aged in their 30s, 40s and 50s; the fourth is a man from Plymouth in his 20s.
Detective Inspector Pete Gee confirmed the investigation is ongoing and that several cordons remain in place across the town. "We recognise the impact this incident has had on the local community and would like to thank residents for their continued support and patience while enquiries are carried out," Gee said.
Davis' family added that he was an animal lover who would be "missed and loved."
