Portsmouth murder accused faces second charge after body found at home

A 48-year-old man charged with the murder of a 74-year-old woman in Portsmouth has been hit with an additional charge of assaulting an emergency worker, bbc.com reports.

Officers discovered the body of Carole Langley at a property on Cyprus Road on Monday morning, having responded to reports of a domestic incident. Scott Langley, of St Pauls Road in Southsea, appeared at a preliminary hearing at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.

The presiding judge indicated the case would likely be transferred to Portsmouth Crown Court, with Langley remanded in custody until a further hearing later this year.

In a statement issued through Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, Carole Langley's family said she would be "sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her."

"Her love, kindness and beautiful memories will live on in all of us," the statement read. The family also thanked members of the public for their condolence messages and asked that their privacy be respected.
