A 19-year-old driver with a blood alcohol content of 0.161 — more than twice Michigan's legal limit — ran a red light in a Dodge Charger and fatally struck a math teacher who was working a night shift for Uber, Law & Crime reports.

Tracy Darwin Sutton now faces charges of operating while intoxicated causing death and operating while intoxicated causing serious injury in the death of Dwayne Antonio Harvey, 59, a teacher at Oak Park High School.

Oak Park police responded around 11 p.m. on Sept. 17 to the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Coolidge Highway, in a Detroit suburb, after reports of a traffic crash. Officers arrived to find a heavily damaged Dodge Charger and a Buick Envision at the scene.

A 23-year-old back seat passenger in the Charger had been ejected from the vehicle and was found lying in the street. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Sutton, the Charger's driver, sustained only minor injuries.

Harvey, who was driving his Buick Envision northbound on Coolidge Highway, had to be extracted by emergency crews before being rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed Sutton driving east on Eight Mile Road when he allegedly ran the red light and collided with Harvey's vehicle. His BAC of 0.161 was confirmed by local Fox affiliate WJBK.

By day, Harvey taught mathematics at Oak Park High School. By night, he drove for Uber to earn additional income.

The school mourned his loss in a Facebook post. "At Oak Park High School, he was known for his warm smile, positive spirit, and genuine connection with students," the statement read. "He encouraged others, showed up for his students and colleagues, and brought a special energy to our school community each day."

Harvey also served as the senior class sponsor and was known among staff and students as a devoted fan of Prince and the color purple. The school announced that students and staff would wear purple and play his favorite music on Friday in his honor.

"Mr. Harvey will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to students, and the positive presence he brought to Oak Park High School each day. He will always be a part of the Oak Park Schools family and will be deeply missed," the school added.

Sutton was booked into Oakland County Jail and is being held on a $2 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 29.
