Durham Police seize nine guns and drugs in raid tied to August shootings and homicide

Durham Police arrested eight people and seized nine firearms, drugs and ammunition during a search warrant executed on 2 September at a residence on S. Roxboro Street, wral.com reports.

The operation was carried out by the Durham Police Department's Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit, supported by the Special Operations Unit and the Selective Enforcement Team. Investigators said the action was triggered by a series of violent incidents in the area throughout August, including multiple shootings and a homicide.

Officers recovered 14.6 grams of cocaine, 158.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, nine firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, firearm accessories and $219 in cash. Five of the nine firearms had previously been reported stolen.

"The probable cause developed in this case was the result of investigations into multiple incidents in this area, specifically homicides, aggravated assaults, and weapons violations," said Sgt. J. Roberts of the Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit.

Roberts described the operation as resulting in the removal of a significant number of dangerous firearms and narcotics from the neighbourhood. All adults charged in connection with the raid are Durham residents, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about violent criminal activity linked to the investigation to contact the Durham Police Department or Durham CrimeStoppers. Anonymous tips can be submitted through CrimeStoppers, with cash rewards of up to $2,000 available for information leading to felony arrests.
