A 34-year-old woman from Madison Heights, Michigan, has been charged with five felony offences related to human trafficking and prostitution, clickondetroit.com reports.

Maya Scott Perry was arrested on 17 June by the Madison Heights Police Department's Special Investigations Unit, following an inquiry into prostitution activity across Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Southfield and Warren.

Investigators allege that Perry transported at least one woman for the purposes of prostitution and accepted earnings from those activities. The charges include transporting a person for prostitution, accepting earnings for prostitution, engaging in a human trafficking enterprise resulting in injury or commercial sexual activity, capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person, and making a false report of a felony.

Authorities also noted that Perry frequently brought her minor child along while allegedly conducting trafficking activities. Police stated that the child was not directly involved or physically harmed and is now in the care of a custodial parent. Perry additionally faces a misdemeanour charge of fourth-degree child abuse.

She was arraigned last week, with bond set at $250,000 cash or surety. Perry is scheduled to appear at the 44th District Court in Royal Oak on 18 September for a probable cause conference.

The investigation remains ongoing. Madison Heights police say they are still determining whether additional victims were involved, and are asking anyone with relevant information — or anyone who believes they may have been a victim — to contact the department at 248-837-2767.
