A Nashville man has been arrested on assault charges after allegedly directing a laser beam at a Metro Nashville Police Department helicopter, wsmv.com reports.

The incident took place on Saturday, when an MNPD helicopter was assisting in a pursuit of a fleeing vehicle. According to police, a laser was shone at the aircraft from a condo below. Video footage released by MNPD appears to show the laser being aimed at the helicopter.

"Shining a laser at an aircraft can blind a flight crew and is a crime," MNPD stated.

Ground units located the suspect and recovered the device. Bradley Powell, 47, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer flight crew. He faces an additional charge of evidence tampering after allegedly attempting to conceal the laser.

Police announced the arrest on Monday.
