A former office manager at a Tallahassee law firm was arrested Monday and charged with grand theft and fraud after more than $91,000 in client cash payments were found unaccounted for, according to court documents cited by wctv.tv.

Cha'Layna Williams had worked as office manager at the unnamed Tallahassee-based firm, joining on a part-time basis in 2022. Under the firm's procedures, cash payments from clients were placed in a safe inside her office. Williams was responsible for confirming the amounts before transporting the funds to the bank. She held the only key to the safe.

A deposit discrepancy was first flagged in February 2026, when the firm determined that $8,600 in received cash had never been deposited. When confronted, Williams claimed she had found the payments inside her bank bag.

The firm then extended its review of financial records and identified a further $8,900 payment, received in August 2025, that had also never reached the bank. Confronted a second time, Williams admitted to taking the money. "I hate that I put myself and the firm in this situation, I am willing to do whatever I can to repay it," she said, according to court documents.

A broader audit ultimately identified approximately $91,051.90 in suspected unaccounted-for cash payments, arrest papers show.

Williams was arrested Monday and faces charges of grand theft — involving an amount between $20,000 and $100,000 — as well as fraud.
