The Terrebonne Parish District Attorney's Office admitted on Monday that it had twice failed to secure a conviction against a man now charged with four counts of first-degree murder, fox8live.com reports.

Kaegan Jude Solet was first charged with second-degree murder in 2019, but a grand jury declined to indict. Later that same year, he was arrested again on attempted second-degree murder charges; a jury returned a not guilty verdict.

Solet is now accused of stabbing four people to death and injuring a child on 12 September. He faces four first-degree murder charges and one count of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the attack.

Officials from the DA's office stated they acknowledge the prior prosecutions did not produce the "desired" outcome and that the office disagrees with the juries in both earlier cases.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed Solet is currently being held at a medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries, which investigators believe are linked to the alleged attack. He is expected to require surgery, and his transfer to the parish jail is dependent on his medical condition.

The DA's office has reserved 27 October as the date for grand jury proceedings in the current case.
