A man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after a woman was found stabbed multiple times in Woodfin, North Carolina, foxcarolina.com reports.

Louis Williams Jones, Jr. faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and vehicle larceny following the Monday incident.

Officers responded to the area near the intersection of Old Home Road and Barton Road after witnesses reported seeing a man attacking a woman both inside and outside a burgundy 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. Jones then fled the scene in the vehicle.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed she has since been stabilised.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office located the Mountaineer, carried out a traffic stop, and took Jones into custody.

Investigators noted that the suspect and victim were known to each other.
