A 53-year-old man with Turkish nationality has been arrested in Basel. He is suspected of being involved in a telephone fraud.
The perpetrators had called a woman and impersonated police officers and bank employees. They convinced the woman to hand over a large sum of money to a stranger at her place of residence.
Later, the suspect caught the attention of officials from the investigative service during a prevention operation through suspicious behaviour. Following further investigations, suspicion against the man intensified.
The public prosecution office intends to apply to the court for compulsory measures to have the accused remanded in custody.
