In Osternienburg in Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, six-year-old Alicia died from severe head injuries. Her 27-year-old stepfather is being held in investigative custody. Investigators are now proceeding on the assumption that a homicide has been committed.
The man initially claimed the girl had fallen. He brought the injured girl to a clinic, where doctors raised the alarm. Forensic experts contradicted the stepfather's account and found evidence of an intentional act. Following this, the public prosecutor's office changed the direction of the investigation from assault to homicide.
The suspect is unemployed. Neighbours described him as a reclusive man. The exact circumstances leading to the child's death remain the subject of ongoing investigations.
