On Sunday night, an individual of Serbian origin lost his life inside a residential property in central Barcelona. Eyewitnesses described the attacker as a corpulent, tall man dressed in dark clothing, who approached the victim from behind and fired a burst of shots at him. After carrying out the attack, the gunman fled. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene were unable to save the wounded man, who died on the spot. Catalan police are continuing to search for the person responsible for the murder, according to Nova.rs.
This incident adds to an escalation of violence that has kept the city on edge. During the spring, Krsto Vujović—one of the strong men of the Škaljarski clan—was shot in a restaurant whilst sharing a table with his family. His injuries caused his death hours later in a hospital. Vujović was among the main targets of Montenegrin justice, which attributed to him the direction of a gang dedicated to organised crime and intellectual authorship of the murder of Šćepan Roganović, committed in Herceg Novi in 2020. He was also being investigated for ordering the execution of Nemanja Zurovci, allegedly a member of the rival Kavaški clan.
At the end of last year, another man aged 33—known as M. M. and originally from Podgorica—suffered an identical attack in Barcelona. A hired killer shot him three times in the back and disappeared. M. M. also maintained ties with the Škaljarski clan. His criminal record dates back to 2015, when Spanish police arrested him in Valencia at just 23 years old for a drug trafficking offence. In that operation he was linked to Goran Radoman, whose murder that same year was considered the trigger for the open conflict between the two major groups in Kotor, according to N1.hr.
The bloody dispute between the Škaljarski clan and the Kavaški—both originating from the Montenegrin coast—has already left dozens dead in several European countries. In Barcelona, the situation has sparked neighbourhood demonstrations demanding greater security and a forceful response from the city council.
