Three Civil Guards injured by drug boat intercepted in Águilas, Murcia

Drug boat rams Civil Guard at Cabo Cope: three agents injured and two detained
Three Civil Guards were injured on Wednesday when their patrol vessel was rammed by a drug boat intercepted at Cabo Cope, in the municipality of Águilas (Murcia). The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) reported that the two occupants of the vessel were attempting to avoid being detained when the impact occurred. One of the agents required five stitches; the exact extent of the injuries to the other two has not been disclosed.
According to La Vanguardia, the vessel—equipped with two engines—was transporting 20 containers of petrol and was located as part of a broad maritime, aerial and land operation deployed by the security forces.
The Government delegate in Murcia, Francisco Lucas, stated on X that he had contacted the captain of the Civil Guard Maritime Service and the other two injured agents to convey his recognition. Lucas reaffirmed the Government's commitment to combating criminal organisations and stressed that the security forces maintain a "firm and constant" watch over the coast of the Region of Murcia to combat the activities of mafias.
The two detentions in Águilas add to two others made on Monday in Cartagena, where agents of the Maritime Service surprised another vessel 12 nautical miles south-east of Monte Cenizas.
Since 15 August, operations related to arrivals by sea have resulted in a total of eight vessels and approximately three hundred people reaching the Murcian coast.
In response to the injuries suffered by the agents, the AUGC criticised that "whilst the Government looks the other way, our colleagues are putting their lives at risk with inferior means against organised drug trafficking".
