Police discovered a safe full of jewels, luxury watches and gold chains in the office of former Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, as part of a corruption scandal shaking Pedro Sánchez's government, according to The Times.

During a search carried out at the office situated opposite the headquarters of the Socialist Party in Madrid, investigators found the safe which contained approximately 30 pieces of jewellery. Among the items seized were an Omega watch, cufflinks, rings and pendants. According to judicial documents, these articles were allegedly received as gifts.

The discovery represents a new turn in the corruption investigation affecting Sánchez's executive branch, broadening the controversy over possible financial irregularities linked to figures of the Socialist Party.
