Two arrested in Talavera for defrauding €20,000 with 30 gold-plated jewels
The National Police arrested two men in Talavera de la Reina on 26 August for pawning counterfeit high-quality jewels in five establishments, accumulating fraud of approximately €20,000.

The National Police arrested two men in Talavera de la Reina on 26 August accused of defrauding approximately €20,000 from gold buying and selling establishments, according to ABC. Officers managed to identify and arrest them in the act thanks to their swift intervention.
The investigation began as a result of routine control and inspection work that the Police carry out in this type of business, combined with the collaboration of the affected establishments themselves. The inquiries made it possible to clarify fraudulent operations in a total of five establishments in the city.
Investigators verified that the two suspects used high-quality counterfeits: gold-plated pieces whose appearance made detection difficult to the naked eye. At the time of arrest, 30 jewels of this type were seized.
The method used was deliberately aimed at evading the standard authenticity checks in the sector. Rather than selling the pieces directly—which would have required them to undergo tests such as filing, capable of revealing their falsity—the detainees opted to pawn them, obtaining money in this way without the establishments being able to verify the real composition of the material.
According to police inquiries, the two arrested individuals would have made this activity their main source of income, exercising it in a professional and continuous manner.
