Arrested in Zaragoza for setting fire to bins in San José neighbourhood
National Police arrested a resident of a care facility in Zaragoza following a fire in bins in the San José neighbourhood. Officers seized lighters and a box containing soot residue.

The National Police have arrested a man residing in a care facility in Zaragoza as the alleged perpetrator of a deliberately set fire in several urban waste bins in the San José neighbourhood, according to reports. Police deployed resources following an increase in such incidents in the area around Camino de las Torres and the streets Lorenzo Pardo and José Luis Pomarón.
On 28 August, at approximately 15:00 hours, emergency services received a report of a bin fire on José Luis Pomarón street. Upon the arrival of officers, firefighters from Zaragoza Fire Service were already engaged in extinguishing the fire, whilst Local Police cordoned off the affected perimeter.
The director of the care facility near the scene informed police of her suspicion about one of the residents, whom officers were already tracking due to similar incidents. The director stated that she had seen the individual leaving the facility shortly before carrying a piece of cardboard and heading towards the bins, after which smoke began to appear.
Located inside the facility, the man was searched, during which officers seized several lighters and a box containing soot residue and smelling of smoke. When confronted by officers, he admitted to being responsible for the fire.
Several of the bins were completely burnt out. The detainee has numerous prior offences for similar acts and is linked to other ongoing investigations into bin fires that occurred in the same area. He was taken to police headquarters and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities hours later.
The National Police are maintaining an open investigation into similar incidents recorded both on José Luis Pomarón street and on the nearby Lorenzo Pardo street.
