A man of Serbian nationality has been shot dead in the courtyard of a residential building in Barcelona, in what constitutes the third murder linked to Balkan clans in the Catalan capital in the last six months.

A Serbian citizen has been shot dead in the internal courtyard of a residential building in Barcelona, in the latest episode of an escalation of violence linked to Balkan cartels that is ravaging the Catalan capital. The crime occurred around 21:00 hours, when an individual dressed in dark clothing, of robust build and considerable height, approached the victim from behind and fired a burst of shots before fleeing. The medical staff who attended the scene were unable to save his life.
The identity of the deceased has not been revealed by the authorities. The alleged perpetrator of the shooting remains at large, according to Serbian media outlet Nova.rs, cited by Slovenske novice.
This homicide adds to a series of executions that have Barcelona on edge. In April of this year, Krsto Vujović, a prominent member of the Škaljarski clan, was shot whilst dining with his wife and son in a restaurant. Seriously wounded, he subsequently died in hospital. Vujović held an elevated position within the organisation and was a fugitive from Montenegrin justice, which had charged him with directing a criminal association responsible for the murder of Šćepan Roganović in Herceg Novi in 2020, as well as the planning of the murder of Nemanja Zurovec, alleged member of the rival Kavaški clan.
In December of last year, another man linked to the same criminal network was shot dead in Barcelona. He was a 33-year-old from Podgorica, identified as M. M., who was approached from behind by an attacker and shot three times before the attacker fled. This individual had been arrested in February 2020 at a well-known hotel in Belgrade alongside three accomplices and sentenced to two years in prison. His name first appeared in 2015, when he was arrested in Valencia at just 23 years old for cocaine trafficking; he was then linked to Goran Radoman, whose execution that same year was described as the first in the war between the Kotor clans.
The wave of violence has reached such dimensions that Barcelona residents have organised protests to demand a firm response from municipal authorities. A large portion of the shootings and murders that are shaking the city are attributed to gangs of Montenegrin and Serbian origin, which have transferred their territorial disputes to Spanish territory. The victim on Sunday is already the third person from the former Yugoslavia murdered in Barcelona in the last six months, both among the victims and among the alleged perpetrators.
