A Serbian citizen was shot dead on Sunday night in the courtyard of a residential building in Barcelona. The killing occurred around 21:00, when an individual dressed in black, of tall stature and sturdy build, approached the victim from behind and fired a burst of shots at him. The assailant fled the scene immediately afterwards. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the Serb died at the scene of the crime. Authorities have not yet arrested any suspect, according to Nova.rs.
This murder adds to a surge in violence in the Catalan capital that has already provoked protests from local residents, who are demanding that municipal authorities take measures against shootings and killings. Much of this violence, according to sources consulted, would be related to clans of Montenegrin and Serbian origin.
The victim on Sunday represents the third execution in Barcelona in which both the victims and, probably, the perpetrators come from the territory of the former Yugoslavia. In April of this year, Krsto Vujović, a prominent member of the Škaljarski clan, was shot while dining in a restaurant with his wife and son. Seriously wounded, he subsequently died in hospital. Vujović held a high position within the Škaljarski clan and was a fugitive from the investigative bodies of Montenegro, which accused him of organising a criminal association responsible for the killing of Šćepan Roganović in Herceg Novi in 2020. He was also charged with planning the killing of Nemanja Zurovec, a presumed member of the Kavaški clan.
In December of last year, another man linked to the same criminal group was murdered in Barcelona. It was M. M., a 33-year-old from Podgorica. The attacker approached him from behind, fired three shots and fled. This individual had been arrested in February 2020 at a well-known hotel in Belgrade along with two compatriots and a citizen of Banja Luka, and was sentenced to two years in prison. His name appeared for the first time in 2015, when he was arrested in Valencia at the age of 23 for cocaine trafficking. At that time he was linked with Goran Radoman, whose execution that same year was described as the first in the war between the clans of Kotor—the Škaljarski and the Kavaški—according to N1.hr as cited by Slovenske novice.
