The Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed to Ouest-France the discovery of the 58 people. Among them, women, children and those in possession of a refugee status application receipt were released. The twenty-six remaining foreigners, lacking a residence permit, were placed in administrative detention.
According to initial investigative findings, the truck belongs to a company domiciled in Seine-et-Marne. The Paris public prosecutor's office indicated that "an investigation has been opened, at the initiative of the Office for combating illicit trafficking of migrants, on charges of aiding entry, movement, or irregular residence of a foreigner in France within an organised group". The investigation must establish whether "the truck was intended to transport them to a specific location as part of an organised network", the prosecutor's office clarifies.
