Charges reclassified after three years of investigation
On 26 July 2023, on the first day of the Bayonne festival, Patrice Laniès, 46, was beaten after asking a group of people to stop urinating on the entrance door of his building. He died from his injuries.
During the preliminary investigation in 2023, nine people were presented to the investigating judge. Seven of them were charged with murder. After three years of investigation, the prosecution decided to proceed against three suspects, with charges now reclassified as "voluntary assault in a group resulting in death, without intent to cause it". For the other accused, the prosecution requested a dismissal.
