The Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed on Friday that Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, defender for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), will be committed to a criminal court for rape. The decision came as the player was competing on Friday evening in Boston, United States, in his second match of the 2026 football World Cup against Scotland.
In a statement, the court of appeal indicated that serious and consistent evidence existed against the player, justifying his commitment to the regional criminal court of Hauts-de-Seine. This decision follows the order issued in late February by the investigating judge, against which Hakimi had filed an appeal.
The date of the trial is not yet known. The Moroccan player reacted on social media X by stating: "From day one, I have been waiting for this trial. And now I am waiting with increasing impatience. I will finally be able to speak."
According to the accusation, Hakimi allegedly raped a 23-year-old woman in late February 2023. The victim claims to have made the footballer's acquaintance on Instagram in January 2023, then travelled to his home by car with a chauffeur. She alleges she was kissed and touched against her will, then raped by the player. The young woman claims she managed to break free and leave the premises with the help of a friend.
The Moroccan player had been placed under investigation in March 2023 and placed under judicial supervision.
