Sexual violence in police: two new cases involving vulnerable victims

Two police officers accused of sexual assaults on vulnerable people
Google News FR — Crime (fr) reports two new cases of sexual violence involving members of law enforcement, adding to a list already documented by an investigation published on 19 June 2025. Journalists Leïla Miñano, Sarah Benichou and Sophie Boutboul had then identified at least 429 victims and 215 perpetrators, of whom 76% were women, 6% men and 18% minors — only among cases that resulted in a formal complaint.
Police officer arrested in Amiens for rape of a minor
On 7 August 2026, a young police officer was apprehended by his colleagues at his grandmother's home in Amiens, in the Somme. He was alone with a 14-year-old adolescent in a closed room. The victim's parents raised the alert after locating their son through his mobile phone's geolocation.
According to initial investigation findings, the police officer had made contact with the adolescent via an online video game website. Placed immediately in police custody, he was questioned and then brought before the court, before being placed under formal investigation and remanded in custody.
The prosecutor details multiple charges: "rape of a minor aged under 15 with an age difference of 5 years", "inciting a minor to consume narcotics", "sexual proposition followed by a meeting", "corruption of minors aged under 15" and "possession of child sexual abuse material".
The case takes on particular significance in light of the officer's criminal history. A previous allegation of rape of a minor and distribution of sexually explicit images had been dismissed in 2026, the facts deemed "not sufficiently substantiated" according to the magistrate in charge. The police officer had thus been able to continue performing his duties despite an ongoing investigation.
Sébastien Gallois, prosecutor of Rouen, announced that the civil servant "has been suspended from his duties and his contract will not be renewed".
Commander convicted of assault on an 89-year-old patient
During the night of 5 to 6 April 2025, a 54-year-old police commander was admitted to the emergency department of Gleizé hospital in the Rhône, following a head injury. In the same establishment, an 89-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease was waiting in a corridor after being admitted for an arm wound.
In the evening, the commander approached the patient's stretcher and sexually assaulted her. It was care workers who brought an end to the incident. CCTV footage shows the man caressing the octogenarian's chest and kissing her forcibly for several minutes.
During his trial on 10 July 2025, the police officer claimed amnesia due to medication and alcohol consumption. The magistrates convicted him to four months' imprisonment suspended, 2,000 euros fine, registration on the sex offenders' register and three years' ineligibility for office. He had also been administratively suspended from his duties.
A systemic phenomenon with limited sanctions
These two cases occur within a broader context documented for several years. During the night of 28 to 29 October, a woman brought before the Bobigny prosecutor's office had been raped by two officers in her cell, one of whom had filmed the incident on his mobile phone.
In 2017, a young mother of 28 years old went to Toulouse police station to seek protection from a violent husband. She was raped by police officer Jean-Pierre F., who had received her in his office, had "blocked the door, grabbed her head and forced her to perform oral sex". This officer had other victims according to the same modus operandi.
Figures for disciplinary sanctions illustrate a limited institutional response. Since 2021, only 18 police officers have been sanctioned for sexual violence; only 10 have been dismissed from the institution or retired. In 2023, 46 gendarmes were sanctioned for similar offences, of whom only 3 were struck off.
