Delogu-police altercation in Marseille: Nuñez backs law enforcement
Three police officers have filed complaints of insult against La France insoumise deputy Sébastien Delogu following an altercation in Marseille. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has expressed his support for the officers.
Insult complaints after altercation between deputy Delogu and Marseille police
Three police officers have filed complaints of "insult" against La France insoumise deputy Sébastien Delogu, the Marseille public prosecutor's office indicated on Wednesday 26 August. An investigation is underway following a filmed altercation between the elected representative of Bouches-du-Rhône and plainclothes officers intervening at the building where he lives.
According to France Info, the incident was revealed through the circulation of video extracts showing this police intervention in the Marseille building. At this stage, Sébastien Delogu has himself filed no complaint, either with the prosecutor's office or with police services.
Nuñez targets La France insoumise
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez responded on social network X by expressing his "support for law enforcement". He also directly targeted the political movement of the deputy: "With La France insoumise, it is always someone else's fault."
Nuñez specified that "the police were intervening to apprehend the perpetrator of a flagrant theft". He added that "an investigation is open, which will make it possible to determine the exact circumstances in which what is seen in extracts of circulated video occurred", whilst also emphasising that this video constitutes "an investigative document covered by confidentiality".
The minister concluded by stating: "I obviously bring my support to law enforcement who must be able to carry out their function everywhere and in all circumstances, and at the very least be supported in this by an elected representative of the Republic."
