On Monday morning, investigators from the first district of the Paris judicial police placed the 67-year-old singer in police custody. He is suspected of rape and sexual assault. According to information from the Nanterre prosecutor's office, which is handling all cases against him, the allegations currently involve thirteen people who have filed complaints.
On Wednesday, the artist was to be brought before investigating magistrates. Representatives of the public prosecution service filed a request: they wish for the performer to be committed for trial for acts of "rape and attempted rape, sexual assault and harassment" involving nine women, which occurred between 2010 and 2019. At the same time, they requested that he be remanded in custody pending trial.
Close associates of the accused, contacted by BFMTV, indicated that he had not foreseen such an outcome. During the weekend preceding his arrest, he is said to have downplayed the accusations to those around him, claiming he had never forced anyone despite sometimes being insistent in his behaviour.
Upon his arrival at the police station, the man is said to have displayed a defiant attitude. He has the support of his current partner Clémence, as well as his former wife Amanda Sthers and their two children. His eldest son, Leon Hesby, is scheduled to perform on stage on 26 June as part of a festival at Sables-d'Olonne.
The number of complainants continues to grow. A 46-year-old actress has just joined the list of alleged victims. She claims that the artist attempted to force her into sexual activity in the year 2000 at his Paris home, when she was 19 years old. She has taken legal action with her lawyer, Maître Myriam Benayoun.
