Paris Saint-Germain's Moroccan international player Achraf Hakimi is to be tried in an alleged rape case – announced on Friday by a French appeals court, as reported by Telex.
In February 2023, a woman then aged 24 accused the 27-year-old footballer of sexual assault. According to the previous indictment, the athlete faces a sentence of up to 15 years' imprisonment if convicted.
Hakimi denies the accusations. On social media, he stated that he had been waiting for this trial since day one and that he was eager finally to be able to speak out on the matter.
The judicial proceedings are taking place in France, where the athlete plays for PSG. The defender of Moroccan origin also holds a key role within his country's national team.
