Murder in Libourne: 43-year-old suspect remanded in custody
A 43-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in an advanced state of decomposition on rue du Docteur Nard in Libourne. The Bordeaux prosecutor's office has taken over the case.

According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), it was a telephone call received on Friday 22 May at around 5 p.m. that led Libourne gendarmes to rue du Docteur Nard, where they discovered a body in an advanced state of decomposition. The alleged victim is believed to be a 67-year-old man, the owner of the property, whose definitive identification was to be confirmed in the following days.
Traces of a struggle found inside the apartment led the duty magistrate from the Libourne prosecutor's office, present at the scene, to open a murder investigation. The case was assigned to the investigation brigade of the Libourne gendarmerie. An autopsy and further forensic examinations were ordered to determine the causes and date of death.
The investigation quickly turned towards a 43-year-old man, originally from Libourne, who had allegedly been accommodated by the victim for a few days. The suspect, who has several convictions on his criminal record — notably for voluntary violence — was arrested the same day at 5:25 p.m. on a public street in Libourne, in an apparent state of intoxication. He was placed in police custody.
On Saturday 23 May, the Libourne prosecutor's office transferred the case to the Bordeaux prosecutor's office, given the criminal nature of the facts. During questioning, the man in custody admitted to having had an altercation with the victim at his home, in a context of alcohol consumption, around 6 or 7 May. He admitted to having struck the 67-year-old man several times, whilst denying any intent to kill him.
On Sunday 24 May, he was brought before the Bordeaux district court as part of a judicial investigation opened for murder. The judge of freedoms and detention remanded him in custody.
